Archive of Rabbi Yossef Tuvia Abramovitch, author of Yad Yossef on slaughter laws.
Rabbi Yossef Tuvia Abramovitch, an outstanding sage. Born in Kelm (Lithuania). Came to England and served for 22 years as Shochet in Manchester. Wrote his important book about laws of slaughter and inedibility of lungs. The book was printed in Poltava in 1913, but due to World War I events only three copies remained in the author's hands (as told in the introduction). In 1928 Rabbi Yossef Tuvia came to Jerusalem where his book was reprinted.
1. Printing agreement (2000 copies) with the printer of Poltova, Rabbi Eliyahu Akiva Rabinovitch. Handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yossef Tuvia, Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Farber and Rabbi Eliyahu Akiva Rabinovitch. 1913.
2. Handwritten leaves ready for printing, including sections of writer's introduction. Copies of approbations by Rabbi Yisrael Chaim Daiches of Lodz, Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Yaffe. Original handwritten approbations signed by Rabbi Shmuel Michal Rabinovitch (author of Toldot Shas) and Rabbi Menachem Dover Dagotzky of Manchester.
3. Printing sheet of "Yad Yossef", Poltova edition, 1913 (bibliographically unknown).
4. Copy of "Yad Yossef", Jerusalem edition, 1928. Author's ink-stamps. (On page 11 is a memorial stamp in honor of writer's wife who died in 1932).
5. Signed agreement regarding lodging and bequeathing property, with "Moshav Zkenim U'Zkenot in Jerusalem. Jerusalem, 1928.
