Poster with a list of names “Election for the City Committee for the Ashkenazi Congregation”. Jerusalem, [1920].
Election regulations and decisions of the Election Committee. Following that a printing [upon both sides of the poster] “a listing of all the members of our congregation from the age of thirty and over”, which includes hundreds of names.
This sheet is intended for use at the polls at the time that the election is taking place for the purpose of indicating the selection of the voter, therefore, alongside some of the names a specific marking was penciled in.
“The City Committee for the Ashkenazi Congregation” was established by the members of the old settlement in Jerusalem, a short while after the conquest of Jerusalem by the British, in order to conduct matters concerning the Jews of the city and to represent them before the British authorities in response to the establishment of the “City Committee for the Jews of Jerusalem” which was founded by the Zionistic “Legation Committee”. Struggles and differences erupted between the two committees. The Ashkenazi committee constituted the foundation of the “Agudat Yisrael of Israel”, and the “Eida Ha’Charedit” which exists today.
[1] poster. 47X62cm. Fair-poor condition. Folding marks, tears and signs of wear.
