Divrei Chaim, New York, Jerusalem, 1946. Special edition published by Rebbe Ya'akov Halberstam in honor of the 70th yahrzteit of his grandfather, Rebbe Ya'akov Halberstam of Sanz, author of the Divrei Chaim.
This edition was printed in New York, however, because of the special sanctity of Jerusalem, the Rebbe had the title-page and another page reprinted in Jerusalem. He removed the original title-page from each copy and inserted the two Jerusalem pages instead. (Regarding this, see the bibliographer Naftali Ben Menachem's article, Sinai 30, 1954, page 154).
On page before title-page appears impressive dedication (10 lines) from 1951, in handwriting and with signature of Rebbe Ya'akov Halberstam of Chakova-Sanz.
Rebbe Ya'akov Halberstam, son of Rebbe Sinai of Kaushitz and Zemigrad, son of Rebbe Baruch of Gerlitz, son of author of Divrei Chaim, was born in winter of 1896-7. He married the daughter of Rebbe Shalom of Shatz. Was given rabbinic ordination (s'micha) by Maharam Arik. Served from the year 1825 as Av Beit Din in Chakova. In 1942 he dreamt of the holocaust that would soon destroy European Jewry. He consequently left the rabbinate and came to Jerusalem, where he established Yeshivat Divrei Chaim – Chakova. During the holocaust years the Rebbe was in the US, where he was very active in thee Va'ad Hatzala Organization for rescuing European Jews. After the war he returned to Israel, later he returned to the US where he established his Beit Midrash in the East Side, New York. Died 1964.
As heads of his yeshiva in Jerusalem served his well-known sons Rabbi Moshe Halberstam zt"l, as well as Rebbe Naftali Halberstam shlita, Rebbe of Chakova and head of the Eda Hacharedit.
