Large and detailed medical book by Abu Ali Hussein ibn Abdullah ibn Sina, which served as a foundational book of medicine in the ancient world - known as The Canon of Abu Sina. Naples (Azriel ben Yosef Press [Ashkenazi Gutzhoser]) 1492. This is the third part of the work. Incomplete copy. There are comments and glosses on the book's leaves.
Hebrew translation of al-Qānūn fī al-Ṭibb - Chukat HaRefuah - the renowned composition on medicine which was the basis for medical study and taught in medical schools until the end of the middle ages and the beginning of the modern era.
The author was called Abu Sina for short; he is known in European languages as Avicenna. He was born in Bukhara in 980 and died in Persia in 1073. He was a Persian physician, philosopher and scientist, known as "The most famous scientist of Islam and one of the most famous of all times and places." He authored hundreds of works, this one being his most important.
The magnum opus includes all of medicine, from minor aches to dangerous diseases. The Canon is a large encyclopedia which greatly influenced the science of medicine.
The translator is Natan Hamati, who translated most of the Hebrew part, and also Zerachiah ben She'altiel and Yosef ben Yehoshua Halorki.
Before us are 182 leaves from the third book, the complete book contains 192 printed leaves [aside from the blank leaves], and another 7 in ancient handwriting. 30x22 cm.
