Hasagot HaRamba"n z"l. Constantinople, 1510. First Edition. Post Incunabula. Extremely Rare Book.
First edition of Hasagot HaRamba"n al Sefer HaMiztvot, which was later printed in hundreds of editions [!] and today is printed together with Sefer HaMitzvot itself. David and Shmuel ibn Nachmias Press.
Post incunabula. Printed without a title page. The title is the first page, printed in large font: Hasagot shel HaRamba"n z"l. In this early period of printing, the printers wrote the details of the printing: the place of printing, the printers' names and the year of printing on the last leaf of the book, as was customary for manuscripts. In this early and rare book too, which was printed when most books were still handwritten, the printing details are printed on the last leaf.
Written on the last leaf: And it was completed on Rosh Chodesh Tammuz of the year ’כ’י ’ב’ר’ו’ך ’ה’ו’א [chronogram of ר"ע/1510] in Greater Constantinople which is under the reign of our king, his majesty Sultan Bayezit. Sultan Bayezit is Bayezid II who ruled the Ottoman Empire 1481-1512 and was the father of the Sultan Selim I, who conquered the land of Israel and Jerusalem and who was the father of Suleiman I 'The Great' who built the walls of Jerusalem and ruled the Ottoman Empire at its peak. Bayezid II was considered a Sultan who was good to the Jews and even assisted the exiles of Spain to become acclimatized in his country and assisted in the establishment of the printing house of the Nachmias brothers in Constantinople.
