Chiddushei Zevachim - Brisk. Jerusalem, 1946. Early Unknown Stencil Edition
Novellae on Tractate Zevachim by the gaon R' Yitzchak Ze'ev HaLevi Soloveitchik, Ga"avad of Brisk.
Before us is a very early edition of Chiddushei HaGry"z on Tractate Zevachim, printed in 1946, with differences from the common editions of the book. (The first known "stencils" were printed only in 1953-4). Written on the back of the title page: "Copied by the youth Shlomo Greenzweig."
Due to the well-known stringency in Brisk to not print books of novellae, these novellae were printed in stencil [-copies], something of a notebook for self-study, not as a book for generations.
Rabbi Yitzchak Ze'ev HaLevi Soloveitchik [1886-1959] was the son of Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and grandson of the "Beit HaLevi." He was rabbi of Brisk, and then one of the leaders of Chareidi Jewry in the Land of Israel. He is considered one of the greatest leaders of the Chareidi public. He already knew the Talmud by heart at the age of 16. He was his father's primary disciple in terms of study methodology: in-depth analysis of the basic elements of the halachah, and raising new insights derived from the precise roots of the law. His lectures, and the Torah novellae copied and delivered in his name, constitute a cornerstone of in-depth study in the halls of Torah.
