Sefer Torah from the beit midrash adjacent to the grave of Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness in Tiberias, [1891]. Ink on parchment, handsome Sefardi handwriting from the 19th century. In a velvet-covered wooden holder, ornamented with brass and silver cut and beaten [some are attached to the wood with nails]. On the inner side is a hand-illustrated and colored paper, with inscription: "Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness he shall merit doing mitzvot and good deeds, 1891". A beaten silver band around the holder with the inscription: "This holder and sefer Torah belongs to the woman Kozmah bat Tzalach Ezra Mashiach who dedicated it in honor of Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness 1891". At the Hillula of Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness in Tiberias (on the 14th of Iyar), the custom was to take out all the Torah scrolls from the ark and dance with them in a joyous and magnificent parade (responsa VaYomer Meir, Volume 2, Siman 59; Avanim BaChoma, pages 65-66). Many segulot of salvations are known in the merit of giving charity and prayer with saying the name of Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness [their source is according to the Talmud in the name of Rabbi Meir himself that said to the guard of the prison "Eloka D'Meir Aneini" for salvation, see Tractate Avoda Zara 18, 1]. The buyer shall receive the document of authorization of the sale of the scroll by those in charge of the grave of Rabbi Meir Ba'al Haness. Height of parchment: 47 cm.
