"Even Saphir" – Books by Rabbi Ya'akov Halevi Saphir, 1866-1874
Parts one and two of the well known book by Ya'akov Halevi Saphir (1822-1885) – scholar, manuscripts researcher, tourist and emissary. Saphir was sent as emissary in 1859 to India and Australia to raise funds for the "HaChurva" synagogue in Jerusalem. He went on his trip through Yemen. His encounter with Yemenite Jews left a deep impression on him. When he returned from Australia through Aden in 1864, he gathered information and material about Yemenite Jews and this led him to write his book "Even Saphir".
