English translation of the research about Jerusalem by the Italian archaeologist and engineer Ermete Pierotti. First volume: Text; :Second volume: 63 plates, some folded, with lithographic prints of photos and drawings by Pierotti portraying Mount Zion, David's Tomb, Misgav Ladach Jewish Hospital, Absalom Tomb and other sites; with a large panorama of Jerusalem viewed from the Mount of Olives.
Pierottie arrived in Jerusalem in 1854, following his appointment as consultant to the renovations of the Temple Mount. Pierotti took part in various construction projects in the city and shortly afterwards was appointed as Jerusalem's engineer. This position opened to Pierotti sites that were inaccessible to Western researchers, in particular the Temple Mount and the Mosques. The book "Jerusalem Explored" is the outcome of a long historical and archaeological research.
Volume I: XII, 339, [1] pp. Volume II: [8], 63 pp + LXIII plates (7 folded). 39 cm. Good condition. Stains. The panorama of Jerusalem in Vol. II is detached and fastened with adhesive tape.
