Zohar Argov (1955-1987
The story of the rise and fall of Zohar Argov is one of the tragedies that Israeli music hall of fame contains. His breakthrough was in 1981 immediately after the appearance of his album Elinor (the best-selling album in Israel of all times). Argov's unique voice made him to be considered until today as the most genuine 'oriental' singer, and his life story – from poverty to fame – made his character mythological and legendary. The deterioration of Argov was connected to his addiction to heavy drugs, and included several violence bursts and encounters with the law authorities. At the age of 32, in a detention cell and in disgraceful conditions, he committed suicide. His enigmatic and tragic figure, his songs and his shivering voice, made him a subject of theatre plays, television and cinema films, and his tormented spirit is still with us, even if it raises many questions and pain.
24 photographs relating to Zohar Argov and a booklet commemorating a decade since his death.
8 colored photographs of his house with a few graffiti slogans; 2 photographs of his grave; a colored negative of his portrait; photographs with various artists; handcuffed to a policeman; in a police station; during performance.
