Miniature manuscript, handsome writing in Rashi lettering and decorated title pages. [Boguslav?, 1888-1889].
Contains three compositions:
*Story of the known Mr. Anonymous, after whom the nations in the countries where we live wander", an ancient composition on the “History of Jesus the Christian” (called also “Ma'ase Talui” etc.) usually common in manuscripts and various versions. This has the addition of "The copier's introduction" which states that they copied and translated (from Yiddish) this edition from an old and blurred manuscript.
* Riddle on the (Hebrew) Alphabet, a small pamphlet…" 22 riddles on all the letters of the alphabet.
* “Hashkamat HaPoker”, a parodic satire based on the first Siman of the Shulchan Aruch and its commentaries, "It counts all the customs and foolishnesses that the heretics do… to show how all their deeds… are against the Torah and the Shulchan Aruch…". A similar composition was printed in the book “HaChasid V'HaMaskil” by Rabbi Yisrael Gelbrat (Chernovtsy 1885). This work appears with many changes. It is unclear whether this is an adaptation of that composition or if it is taken from a third source which was before the copier of this manuscript.
The first and third compositions have exceptional title pages. The copier signs: E. B. M. Z. [apparently, Efraim ben Moshe Zvi of Boguslav – see attached material]. The dates on the second title page and on the colophons contradict one another and the last colophon (1889). Possibly, all are dated according to “Prat Gadol” (including the thousands) and not “Prat Katan” and therefore the copy date is 1888-1889.
