Cardboard folder with a printed label reading "State of Israel - The Provisional Government" (Hebrew) containing three early propositions for a constitution for the State of Israel. The folder was sent to the editorial staff of the newspaper Al HaMishmar. [ca. 1949]. Hebrew and English.
1-2. "State of Israel, constitution proposal". Edited by Dr. Leo Cohen (Hebrew version by Dr. M. Zilberg) + "Memorandum regarding a constitution proposal for Israel" by Leo Cohen (several leaves missing).
The task of formulating a constitution for the state of Israel was placed in the hands of Leo Cohen by the Jewish Agency. The proposal was submitted in 1949 to Zerach Warhaftig, first chairman of the Knesset's constitution committee. The proposal was originally written in English.
3. Suggestions for the Constitution of the State of Israel, [by Dr. Rolbant, London School of Economics]. At the beginning of the proposal is a letter of recommendation by Harold J. Laski.
