Rabbinical Appointment Letters for Rabbi Azriel Al-Naddaf, Rabbi and Leader of the Yemenite Synagogue and Community of the Mishkenot Yisrael Neighborhood in Jerusalem - 1895
Two interesting historical documents of the Yemenite community in Jerusalem, at the end of the 19th century:
· Letter of appointment with 20 signatures of the heads of the Yemenite community, selecting a rabbi and leader for the Yemenite synagogue of the Mishkenot Yisrael neighborhood which was built from the donation of the wealthy R. Moshe Chanoch HaLevi and his son R. David Chai. Jerusalem, the 27th of Sivan 1895. In the margins is the testimony of the rabbis attesting to the results of the vote which took place on the 29th of Sivan in which the majority voted for R. Azriel son of Chaim Al-Naddaf. Signed by R. Shalom Yosef Araki and R. Yichya son of Yosef Tzarum.
· Letter of appointment and authorization for R. Azriel Al-Nadaff, to serve as Rabbi. Signed by the donors, the wealthy Moshe Chanoch HaLevi and his son David Chai HaLevi. The terms of the use of the funds and R. Al-Nadaff's authority in managing the synagogue are detailed in this letter. Jerusalem, the 29th of Sivan 1894.
