Manuscript, Passover Haggadah with Kabbalistic Kavanot and Commentary - Unknown Composition with Additions Handwritten by the Kabbalist Rabbi Nachman - 18th Century
Manuscript, Passover Haggadah, interspersed with kabbalistic kavanot and commentaries. At the beginning of the book is an introduction titled Siddur Pesach K'Hilchato - a preface to the yichudim and kavanot of the Seder eve. [Europe, c. beginning of the 18th century].
The titles and the haggadah are in square calligraphic script, interspersed with kavanot and commentaries in cursive Ashkenazi handwriting [from Russia-Poland?]. We have examined the content of the commentaries and it is not known from other sources. The scribe of the manuscript is a kabbalist by the name of R. Nachman, who added deep notations to the commentaries. In two places, he signs his glosses "Nachman" (see: leaf [16/r]; leaf [35/v]). Marginalia in the handwriting of the scribe of the manuscript, Rabbi Nachman. In one place [leaf 23/v] he notes to study the commentary on the Vehu Rachum prayer in his siddur.
The Arizal's kavanot for the Seder night are profound and complex. A full comprehensive kabbalistic commentary on the entire haggadah is rare. This is an original early complete composition of an author from the 18th century - the beginning of the period in which kabbalah spread to Ashkenazi countries - who was proficient in kabbalistic wisdom.
At the beginning of the first leaf is an ownership inscription: "I have purchased it in honor of my Maker - Ya'akov Aryeh descendant of the Taz".
[42] leaves, [1 blank leaf]. 33 cm. Thick high-quality paper. Especially wide margins. Good-fair condition. Many stains and wine stains. Minor worming. Elaborate leather binding.
