Souvenirs de mon Voyage a Rome et en Palestine 1889 [Souvenirs from my Journey to Rome and Palestine, 1889], by Joseph Boubée. [France, ca. 1889]. French.
Impressions from the journey of the poet and cleric Joseph Boubée to Palestine during the months of May-June 1889. The diary, reproduced from a manuscript, is accompanied by maps made by Boubée which outline the course of his journey at sea and on land, and several illustrations, including illustrations of sites in Palestine and an illustration of "a Jew from the surroundings of Tiberias". On the cover of the diary appear the Jerusalem Cross above the Crusaders' call, "Diex le Volt!" ("God wills it"), and two verses from Psalms 116, "vota mea Domino reddam… in medio tui Hierusalem" (Latin).
Boubée, who documented the minute details of his journey in his diary, left Marseille on the SS Poitou on April 30, and on his way to Palestine, travelled through Rome. He arrived in the port of Haifa, visited the Kinneret, Nazareth and other sites, travelled southward to Jerusalem and from there to Jaffa, there he boarded the SS Poitou on June 11.
