Press photograph of three Jewish slaughterers, which was published subsequent to the prohibition against Kosher slaughter in Poland. Poland, 1936.
The photograph depicts the three slaughterers in aprons and boots, leaving the slaughterhouse with slaughter knives in their hands. In the information note on verso (French), the context in which the photograph was published is referred to – the publishing of the regulation forbidding kosher slaughter in Poland.
In Europe between the two World Wars, Jewish slaughter was limited by various anti-Semitic organizations that acted in guise of preventing cruelty to animals. In 1936, the Polish parliament enacted a law requiring the pre-stunning of the animal and actually forbidding kosher slaughter.
Stamps and a printed inscription on verso.
Approx. 13x18.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains, creases and blemishes (most of them minor).
