Postcard with a "Shana Tovah" greeting and a photograph of the Emil synagogue in Manila, the Philippines, 1947.
The Emil synagogue was named after Emil Bachrach (1874-1937), a Jewish-American businessman who moved to Manila in 1901 and financially supported the local Jewish community. In 1945, the synagogue was burnt down during the Battle of Manila in World War II. The synagogue was reconstructed later by the USA army.
On the postcard before us there is a printed photograph of the front of the reconstructed synagogue, and under it, the inscriptions "Reconstructed Temple Emil, Manila Philippines" in Hebrew and English. The postcard was sent by mail in 1947.
9x14 cm. Good condition. A few stains and minor creases.
