Approx. 140 photographs, mounted on thick paper plates, documenting the settlements, the pioneering activity and sights of Palestine before the establishment of the State (several photographs were printed from the negative at a later time).
Among others, the collection contains: * Many photographs of Jerusalem (the Ottoman Clock Tower, two photographs of the Western Wall, a Jewish memorial on the Mount of Olives, the Temple Mount and more). * Photographs of cities and colonies (The Jaffa Port, fishermen on the Kinneret, the Technion in Haifa, photograph of the members of the city council of Petcah Tikvah on the balcony of the council building, and more). * Portraits and photographs of public figures (Chaim Weizmann and Faisal I, Rabbi Kook, Yitzchak Ben-Zvi and his wife at the crowning of King George, and more). * And various photographs of sights in Palestine (paving roads, officers of the British and Turkish armies, a carousel at a fair of "Totzeret HaAretz" (Locally Produced Goods), tent camps for new immigrants, illegal immigrant ships, and more).
Several of the photographs of the collection are signed in the plate "Y. Ben Dov" [Ya'akov Ben Dov (Jacob Bendow)], and several photographs are signed by other photographers. Most of the photographs are numbered and captioned by hand on the paper plates. Several photographs appear in two copies. Filing holes in the margins of the plates.
