Approx. 95 photographs in an album, documenting the life of a couple, who were illegal immigrants and were imprisoned at the detention camps in Cyprus. Konstanz (Germany), Cyprus, Jaffa and elsewhere, the 1940s until early 1950s (possibly, some photographs are earlier or later).
Presumably, the album had belonged to the couple Sigmund- Zelig and Tovah Stetler, who were caught on their way from Europe to Palestine and were sent to the detention camps in Cyprus. Approx. a third of the photographs in the album document the life of the couple before they left Europe (including photographs of family members, a photograph of Zelig wearing a youth movement uniform, Tovah wearing a nurse uniform, and more); a third of them document their life in the detention camps (Brit Milah of a baby who was born in the camp, the tin sheds ["The Winter Camps"], the residential tents ["The Summer Camps"], workshops, and more). And the final third – their arrival in Palestine (a photograph on the deck of the ship, the sea-shore of Jaffa, bicycle trips and more).
Handwriting (in Hebrew, Polish and Russian) and stamps on verso of some of the photographs. One photograph has an inscription on its front. Several photographs are cut around the contours of the photographed. One photograph appears twice.
Size and condition of the photographs vary. Good-fair overall condition. Open tears, stains and blemishes on some of them. The album is in fair condition, with open tears and blemishes on some of the leaves. In a scuffed and creased binding with a copper relief of Jerusalem.
