13 lithographs showing sites from the cities of Jerusalem, Tiberias and more, by David Roberts, all of which are described. board Signed. Appeared in 'The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia', published in London in 1855.


Including Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, Silwan, the Temple, the Gate of Mercy, Absalom's Tomb in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, Zechariah's Tomb, Tiberias from the Beach, Cliffs in the Sea of Galilee, and more.

David Roberts [1796-1864] who began his career as backdrop artist and did not receive formal training in art, became famous for his 11-month trip to the Middle East between 1838-9, when he painted almost everything he came across, and returned to London with 272 drawings. Robertson's works are considered to be the first and most important of the 19th century. They provided a first and vivid Description of the Land of Israel to the European inhabitants who until then had become familiar with the landscapes of Eretz Israel only from the Bible.
