German and Yiddish Passport - Lithuania Under German Occupation, 1917

Pass [passport]. A Jewish passport issued by the Gebiet des Oberbefehlshabers Ost [German administration in Ober-Ost] at the end of the First World War, with ink stamps "Verwaltungsgebiet Litauen" - the administration in Lithuania.

The passport contains a photograph of the owner of the passport - and the indication that she is Jewish [judisch], Her fingerprint, as well as ink stamps of the director in Lithuania. The details were completed on June 8, 1918.

The passport was issued by the German authority in areas temporarily occupied during WWI [including Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, and areas in Poland and Courland]. The sections are written in Yiddish and German. Among the regulations, there are sections which detail penalties of between five and ten years in prison for a person found without a passport, with a forged passport, etc. There are also penalties for a person who does not report loss of his passport within 24 hours.
