This study is the first experience of describing the history of the life guards sapper battalion, prepared by military engineer Alexander Ermolaevich Volkenstein in connection with the 40th anniversary of the formation of this part. The regiment itself was formed in 1812 in response to the need for engineering units in the Patriotic war. The chief of the regiment was the Emperor himself.
