Lengthy letter handwritten and signed by Rebbe Shlomo Eger of Lublin. Adar 1935. Interesting halachic question regarding the laws of Zeman Tefillah (time limitations for prayer) addressed to the Gaon of Rogatchov - R. Yosef Rosen Rabbi of Dvinsk (Daugavpils). In his letter, the Rebbe wishes to innovate that even though the sages limited the recital of morning prayers to a specific time, if a person has already recited some prayer prior to that time, he has fulfilled his obligation of praying on time and may pray the Shemoneh Esreh whenever he wishes. At the beginning and end of the letter, the Rebbe extends his wishes for the upcoming festival of Passover, "blessings for a kosher and joyous festival". R. Shlomo Eger - Rebbe of Lublin (1871-1940, Eleh Ezkera, II, pp. 228-231), son of Rebbe Avraham Eger of Lublin. After the passing of his father in 1917, he began serving as rebbe in their Beit Midrash on Lubartowska St. in Lublin. His brother R. Ezriel Meir served as rebbe in Pilow (Puławy), near Lublin. An outstanding Torah scholar, he was also renowned for his great wealth and large library, which was one of the most prominent libraries belonging to Polish rabbis. Of great assistance in the founding of the Chachmei Lublin yeshiva, he was engaged behind the scenes in the spiritual and material management of the yeshiva. After the passing of R. Meir Shapiro, he established a spiritual committee to lead the yeshiva, headed by the Gaon of Koziegłowy, the Gaon of Tchebin and Rebbe Moshe of Kraków, as well as an administrative committee for the financial management of the yeshiva. [1] leaf, official stationery. 28 cm. Written on both sides, approx. 25 autograph lines and signature. Good condition. Folding marks and a few creases.
