Glosses from the Shevet Sofer on the Sefer Kreisi Upleisi, Altona 1763
First edition s
efer Kreisi Upleisi on Yoreh De'ah by Rabbi Yonassan Eibeshitz, chief rabbi of AHU (Altona, Hamburg and Wansbeck).
The
sefer includes ten handwritten glosses by Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer, author of the Shevet Sofer, and his stamp appears on the title page.
On the flyleaf, there is a handwritten signature from his son and successor, Rabbi Akiva Sofer, author of Daas Sofer.
The handwriting of the glosses are identical to that of the Shevet Sofer's.
Furthermore, the Shever Sofer writes in his responsa,
"I wrote in my [Kreisi] Pleisi margins," and indeed this novellae is present in this very copy on page 135b.
It is well-known that the Sheves Sofer held the Kreisi Upleisi in high regard and mentioned it in his writings hundreds of times.
Rabbi Simcha Bunim Sofer (1842 - 1906) was the well-known author of Shevet Sofer. He succeeded his illustrious father and grandfather, the Chassam Sofer and Ksav Sofer, in their position as Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva of Pressburg. His disciples numbered in the thousands, with many of them going on to become leading Torah authorities throughout Hungary. Like his fathers, he authored many volumes of Torah thoughts.
