Gutman was born in 1934 to a family of Hassidim in Hungary, and he passed the Holocaust in various camps. At the age of 14, he immigrated to Israel and in 1959 began to work as a sought-after press photographer in Israel and abroad, and he was photographed in Israel and documented in his camera.
