The order of redemption of the firstborn son, with the priests blessing, instructions and laws of the redemption
of the firstborn and the priests blessing – handwriting on parchment dating from 1813.
There is a sha’ar, with an illustrated frame; at the sha’ar’s margins is a picture of a dove and at its side –
the words dove’s wings, hinting at the name of the writer (see the wording of the colophon below). On p.
7A is an illustration of a priest’s hands, to illustrate how the priests split their fingers when they bless the
congregation.
The order of the reading and the blessings are in the center of the page, and surrounding it are the laws in
Yiddish in Tzu”r letters.
On the sha’ar is the inscription: I copied the order of the redemption of the firstborn for the dear officer Rabbi
Aaron Ber (may he have long life) son of the deceased Rabbi Yosef Cohen of the Schopfloch community in
Adar Sheni 5573, in Feuchtwangen.
In the colophon is the inscription: I wrote and completed and copied with G-d’s help on Sabbath eve 24th
Adar Sheni 5573, here in Feuchtwangen. Yonah, son of Rabbi Elhanan Dov (G-d preserve him), cantor and
halachic decisor in Feuchtwangen.
Schopfloch and Feuchtwangen are villages in the Ansbach district in Bavaria. (Read about them in the book
of German communities – Bavaria, pp. 339, 368.)
Seven 11*9 cm leaves. On the page before the sha’ar is the signature: Aaron Ber Kahn. He is the officer
mentioned in the sha’ar in whose honor the order was handwritten. Some pages are worn with slight
