A Very Early Letter, with Important Content, Handwritten and Signed by the Greatest Jewish Artist, Marc Chagall – Paris, 1933
An early letter by Marc Chagall, from 1933, the year he painted one of his most well-known works of art: Solitude (oil painting).
Already then, Marc Chagall was considered "the quintessential Jewish artist of the twentieth century". In 1932, the periodical "Gazit" was established in Tel Aviv and its editor, Gabriel Talfir, became an admirer of the Jewish artist. The letter before us is addressed to him.
A leaf written on both its sides.
27x21cm.
The artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was one of the most important surrealist artists and is considered by many the world's preeminent Jewish artist. He was born to a Jewish Hassidic family in Belarus, studied at the Art Academy of St. Petersburg and in 1910 moved to the artist quarter of Paris. From there he returned to Russia [1914], moved to Lithuania [1922], stayed a while in Berlin and then returned to Paris [1923]. He escaped the Nazis and traveled to the USA [1941], returning to Paris in 1949.
Condition: Very Good. Folding marks and filing holes.
