Handwritten Booklet of Novellae, Bound with Siftei Chachamim. Frankfurt, 1712

Siftei Chachamim. Frankfurt am Main, 1712, belonged to Yaakov Ethausen. From him, it passed to Gershon of Beuthen's family (in Braunschweig). His son, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch, filled the binding leaves with thoughts on Torah and festivals, which as what he did in all his books. In addition, he inscribed biographical notes about his father's family and his descendants. His Torah thoughts are written in Hebrew, somewhat mixed with sentences in Yiddish.

Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch was the primary disciple of Rabbi Eliyahu of Prague, who gave him an enthusiastic approbation for a work of Torah thoughts which he authored; the approbation was given in 1785 [Yeshiva University archives].

34 pages with Torah novellae and various ideas, with a short introduction and colophon: "I wrote this on the 19th of MarCheshvan 1829 ... in Braunschweig, Tzvi Hirsch of Beuthen." The writer signed his name a number of times in the book, he also wrote the names of his family members and notes that his father was named Reb Gershon. Apparently the writer was born in Beuthen and then moved to Braunschweig; he was also an expert in kabbalah.

Owner signature on the title page: הק' יעקב עטהויזן [The small one, Yaakov Ethausen] and others.

[1] 140 leaves, missing the last three leaves. 19 cm. Complete edition of the book printed in the author's lifetime. This was the first time the commentary was printed without the chumash text, so that it could be merged into other chumashim.

The manuscript is in fine condition. Minimal worming holes. The book is in moderate condition.
