Italy: bronze medal of appreciation to Albert Cohn, 1855; by G.B.M & A.M.I; size: 55.25mm; weight: 64g. Obverse: objects & symbols of Judaism/ the Temple; engravers' initials below (unlisted in Forrer); double-ring Hebrew legend (Isaiah 42 v. 12): "Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare His praise in the islands" + acronyms 'Yetera LeMeBi' - Ashkenazi custom of writing a date, reference here being to 'Omer' period, [Omer count] + "the balance to the Sons of Israel" - 'LeMispar Bnei Israel'; dots above letter indicate word laden with blessing. Reverse: Italian legend: "To Albert Cohn For His Unrelenting Charity, The Oriental (Sephardic?) Jews and Italian Co-religionists 1855". Cohn (1814-1877) taught the children of James de Rothschild & managed his charities; succeeded in persuading the Ottoman Sultan to apply any future improvements in the legal conditions of Christians in Turkey to the Jews as well (1854), this medal of appreciation was made around the time of his return.
