Rare Letter from the Chovas Hatalmidim, Rabbi Klonimus Kalmish of Piaseczno, 1932
A letter of recommendation and a request for help from Rabbi Klonimus Kalmish Shapira of Piaseczno for his sister-in-law Rebbetzin Chana Hopstein, daughter of Rabbi Yerachmiel Moshe Hopstein of Kozhnitz.
Just a few days before the outbreak the war Rebbetzin Chana Hopstein arrived from Eretz Yisrael for a visit by her brother-in-law the Admor. On the 12th of Tishrei the Admor's building was hit by a bomb, injuring his son who was rushed to the hospital. Rebbetzin Chana, together with Rabbi Klonimus Kalmish's daughter-n-law, lingered outside the hospital all night to hear how the boy was faring where they were hit by a German bomb and killed.
Rabbi Klonimus Kalmish Shapira of Piaseczno (1889 - 1943) was the son of Rabbi Elimelech of Grodzinsk, descendant of the Maggid of Kozhnitz and the Me'ohr V'Shemesh. Already in his twenties he was appointed Admor and rabbi of Piaseczno. He authored Chovas Hatalmidim, Hachsharas Ha'avreichim and Eish Kodesh.
