Lessons on the Talmud by the Heads of the Telz (Telshe) Yeshiva – the 1920's – Stenciled – Extremely Rare
Approximately 90 lessons on Seder Nashim and Seder Nezikin, by the heads of the Telz Yehisva, Rabbi Chaim (Rabinowitz) of Telz, Rabbi Yosef Yehuda Leib Bloch of Telz and his son Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak. A manuscript that had been stenciled. 1926-1929.
The lessons were stenciled and distributed in European yeshivas during the years before the Holocaust.
Rabbi Chaim Rabinowitz: 78[!] lessons given to the second year students of the yeshiva: 1926-1929. Ketubot, Kiddushin, Yevamot, Gittin, Baba Kama, Baba Metziah, Baba Batra.
Rabbi Yosef Leib Bloch: seven lessons given to all the students of the yeshiva. 1926-1927. Baba Batra, Ketubot, Gittin. An additional lesson was published seven days after his death, Cheshvan 1929.
Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Bloch: one lesson given to all the students of the yeshiva. 1927. Ketubot, Gittin.
The lessons before us were printed in the book Chidushei Rabbi Chaim Mi'Telz, Baba Kama and in the book Mi'Shi'urei Rabbeinu [Shi'ur Da'at] by Rabbi Yosef Leib Bloch. It is most likely that there are lessons that have never been printed.
Each lesson is approximately six pages.
Background:
"Even before he came to Telz, Rabbi Chaim Rabinowitz was a Maggid Shi'ur at the 'Knesset beit Yitzchak' Yeshiva of Slabodka. Later, he was accepted by Rabbi Eliezer Gordon Av Beit Din and Ram of Telz as the head of the well-known yeshiva of Telz instead of Rabbi Shimon Shkop. The lessons were written down by the students of the yeshiva, copied and distributed. They were studied by students of other yeshivas and were reviewed repeatedly".
Rabbi Yosef Leib Bloch: one of the greatest leaders of the Mussar Movement. He married the daughter of Rabbi Eliezer Gordon of Telz and was a appointed Mashgiach and Ram in his yeshiva. When his father-in-law died, he replaced him as Av Beit Din of the city and as head of yeshiva.
Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Bloch: at the age of thirty he was appointed head of yeshiva [in his father's lifetime] and when his father died in 1930, he replaced him as the rabbi of the town. He died in the Holocaust.
Condition: Good. Time stains. Folding marks and wear. The person who studied the text had gone over some of it with pen.
