A Collection of Personal Letters from Rabbi Shmuel Abromowitz

A collection of personal letters in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Shmuel Abromowitz. 16 leaves.

Letters which Rabbi Shmuel Abromowitz wrote in different periods of his life which deal with personal matters. Among others is a letter he sent to his brother in 1928; a letter he sent to his mother; a letter of greeting to a close friend on the occasion of his marriage; a letter he sent to his wife due to his desire to learn peacefully with no disturbances, and about the destroyed country of Lithuania; a letter he sent to his brother after he reached Dallas in America in which he relates that he is trying to attain a small Rabbinic position in order to support himself 'as the suffering we are undergoing is endless'; letters from the time he spent in the Hebron yeshiva in the city of Hebron 'I have been in the holy city of Hebron for over a year and I learn in the famous Slabodka yeshiva which moved to the Land of Israel, we are learning with diligence thank God; a letter about the attempts to find a husband for his sister: 'Which has been troubling her for some time... the question of family life has occupied her entire being for some years, which is clear...even though I was brief, it is sufficient for one who understands...and now God sent us great joy which we never imagined, a young man who is one of the top students of the Slabodka yeshiva, a diligent scholar, with rabbinic approbation from great Rabbis..." [there are two letters on this topic in similar wording with changes, it seems that one served as a draft for the letter which was eventually sent]; interesting details about boys who studied together with him in yeshiva ['Herzl Kaplan and Zvi Chaim son of the Rabbi of Chicago are considering travelling to America this winter, they have been ordained by Rabbi Kook and other Rabbis of Jerusalem in preparation for their trip in about a month's time or more...'] and more.

Rabbi Shmuel Natan Abromowitz [1902-1957] - the first Rabbi of Ramat Yitzchak. Born in Barnowitz, and was one of the founders of the Ohel Torah yeshiva in the city. In his youth, he studied in the Kaminetz yeshiva from Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz and in the Slabodka yeshiva. He immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1925 and was one of the first students sent from the Slabodka yeshiva to found the Hebron yeshiva in Hebron. He survived the 1929 massacres. He served as Rabbi of the Ramat Yitzchak neighborhood which was annexed to Ramat Gan for over 20 years.
