La Dedicace la Sinagogue des Juif Portugais, a Amsterdam, an engraving depicting the inaugeration of the Portuguese Synagogue in Amsterdam, by Bernard Picart [18th century].
A richly detailed engraving. The engraving's front portrays community members, including women and children, standing clothed in traditional holiday garb. The synagogue is crowded, and the holy ark is open. The crowd is facing the central bimah upon which the cantor is standing. Impressive lamps are hanging from the synagogue's ceiling, making the imposing height of the synagogue evident.
