Manuscript - Prayers for a Drought - Padova, 1825 - [Autograph of the Rabbi of the City Author of 'Emek Ha'Melech'?]
Manuscript "a prayer for the drought which I announced to be said here in the holy community of Padova on the day … of Iyar …". The leaves contain the prayer as well as various verses and other prayers.
Nice, orderly script. Three large leaves written on both their sides.
On pp. [3] there is a version of a Vidui [confession]: "We are suffering and anxious since we have no seeds to plant and bread to eat…" and after it a description of ten sins of the public and their sources in the Talmud. Among others: "We have not prayed in a whisper and not in the synagogue. We have not given the poor our contributions". This version of the Vidui is unknown and most likely has never been printed.
On the next two page, various prayers for the drought; to the best of our knowledge, these prayers are unknown!
On the last page, the prayer of 'Avinu Malkeinu'.
The script of the manuscript is identical to that of Rabbi Menachem Azarya Meir Castelnovo (1772-1847) author of 'Misgeret Ha'Shulchan'. He was born in Siena, Italy. He served as a rabbi in Siena and Padova and as head of Yeshiva in Livorno. Authored the book 'Emek Ha'melech' which was printed after his death.
28 cm.
Condition: Very Good. New binding.
