The Sabbath Candlesticks of the Rebbetzen Chaya Mushka, the Lubavitcher Rebbe's Wife
The Sabbath candlesticks in which, for years (most likely from the first years of his marriage until the late 1940's) the Sabbath candles burned at the Lubavitcher Rebbe's house.
On the candlesticks, engraved initials of "MS" - Mushka Schneerson.
The candlesticks were kept by the family of Mrs. Mara Galperin, who for fifty years was a close friend of the Rebbetzen Chaya Mushka. They were friends since the 1930's. With the rise of the Nazis, the Rebbe and Rebbetzen moved from Berlin to Brooklyn while Mrs. Galperin remained in Europe. She miraculously survived the Holocaust and when the war ended, she reached the USA, penniless. The Rebbetzen, who was known for her benevolence, gave her friend her some of her personal belongings, among them the candlesticks before us.
Enclosed is a photograph of the item with a signed confirmation of the above story.
Enclosed in a photograph with confirmation that these candles ticks were used by the Rebbetzen Chaya Mushka Schneerson.
The Rebbetzen Chaya Mushka Schneerson was born on Sabbath, the 25th of Adar 1901 to her father, the REbbe Rayatz and her mother, the Rebbetzen Nechama Dinah. She married Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who in 1951 replaced her father as Rebbe.
The Rebbetzen was known for her intelligence, modesty and benevolence. Her figure is still a model for Jewish women around the world and thousands of Chabad Hassidim name their daughters after her.
