“Colombus” binded with “Tzemach David” [“David’s Plant”], Lamberg, 1846, extremely rare
Two books binded together:
1. “Tzemach David” [“David’s Plant”], by Rabbi David Gans, on the order of generations and history of the People of Israel. Pioneering historical book, first published in 1592 and later reprinted in numerous editions. The book cover includes unidentified signatures and inscriptions. Two volumes, 120 pp.
2. “Colombus”, a scroll-like book depicting the discovery of America. Originally written in German by Joachim Heinrich Campe, it was translated to Hebrew by Avraham Menachem Mendel Mor (1815-1868), an interesting and prolific writer, intellectual and geographer, who lived in Galicia.
The book’s cover bears a handwritten inscription, including the name of Rabbi Isaac Margaliyot ZT”L, head of the Prague rabbinic tribunal, and a list of the “Asseret Harugey Malchut” (“The Ten Martyrs”). Towards the end of the book appears a faded signature of the Chief Rabbi Shmuel Yonah ZT”L. Short annotations appear in various places in the book.
50 pp.
Condition: Very good, slight moisture stains.
