About The Artist:

As a young man, Menashe Kadishman worked as a shepherd in Kibbutz Ma’ayan Baruch and Kvuzat Yizre’el between 1950 and 1953. His experiences with nature, the animals, and the art of shepherding were to later have significant impact on his future artistic direction. In the 1978 Venice Biennale, sheep appeared in his work for the first time, as a flock of painted sheep as living art. Kadishman later painted his first sheep
portrait and these works have since become his artistic trademark.
