'INS Maoz' was originally an illegal immigrant ship named Ben Hecht. The ship was captured by the British in March 1946. It entered service in the Israeli Navy as a supply ship in September 1948 and renamed INS Maoz, and from it torpedo boats were used for sinking the Egyptian destroyer 'Emir Farouk’ during the War of Independence. Served as the mother ship of the naval sabotage unit, later called Flotilla 13.
