Handwritten original paintings of the newspaper Yedioth published in Cyprus camps, along with a copy of the newspaper itself
Volume 3 of the newspaper Yedioth in Romanian, which was published using a stencil by the inhabitants of the internment camps in Cyprus. Edited by Yitzhak Artzi. Illustrations: M. Harry (M. Arie).
Yitzhak Artzi was a leader of the Zionist worker movement in Romania and one of the leaders of the Zionist underground in Romania during the Holocaust. In Cyprus he continued his activism, and then he continued in Israel. He served as deputy mayor of Tel Aviv, and was also a member of Knesset for the Independent Liberal Party. His son is singer Shlomo Artzi.
We have the edition itself, as well as the original paintings used in this edition. These are apparently the earliest paintings by M. Arie ever seen.
The Zionist atmosphere is evident in the paintings as is the somewhat naive style, which became the primary line in M. Arie paintings in later years.
Valuable historical item!
