The speech delivered by Yonatan Ratush in the conference of emissaries of the Committee for the Team-Building of Hebrew Youth. This speech eventually became the major manifest of the Canaanites.
The Committee for the Team-Building of Hebrew Youth ('Canaanites') was founded in 1938. The movement was at its peak in Israel during the 1940's and affected the political thought, the art and the literature in Israel. Its members tried to draw a direct line between them and the ancient nations that had lived in the Land of Israel during the second millennium B.C., in an attempt to create a new-old culture and detach from the traditional Jewish one. The name 'Canaanites' was given to the group, with certain irony, by the poet Avraham Shlonsky.
