Novellae on Talmudic Tractates by Rabbi Shmuel Ya'akov Bramson, Author of Shamsha D'Shmuel - 1880 - Novellae that aperently have not been Printed


Thick manuscript volume (over 400 written pages), novellae on several Talmudic tractates, drushim for completing Sha"s and for Simchat Torah, handwritten by the author, Rabbi Shmuel Ya'akov Bramson of Raigrod. 1880s.

The author recalls his daughter Rivkah Gittel, who passed away in her youth, on 28 Cheshvan, 1880, in the conclusion of one of his sermons: "Rivkah Gittel of blessed memory, who passed away on the 28th day of Marcheshvan" (page 27a). Among the manuscript leaves, the author writes (separately) a text for his daughter's gravestone in rhyme and abbreviations, in which he discloses his identity: "... the modest Rivkah Gittel, daughter of the author of Shamsha D'Shmuel ..."

Regarding the value of the novellae by this author, the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Ze'ev Kahana, av beit din of Posvul, one of the prominent rabbis in Lithuania, in his book of responsa Toldot Ya'akov, siman 32, writes: "These words from my friend are sweet to me, as since the rise of Shamsha D'Shmuel on these writings, it revived them and blew life into them, and they are now alive with his explanations, his honor in his wisdom has elucidated the unknown. There are many matters covered with simplicity, and he came and revealed them ... Blessed are You, Hashem, who has brought me his book ... Please inform me when you publish the Talmudic novellae that you have prepared for print, because my soul desires your novellae, as they are pleasant."

Fine condition. Stains and wear. Minimal tears and worming marks. The last 45 leaves are detached from the body of the manuscript. Without a binding.
