Signed Autograph: Notebook with Novellae by the Rosh Yeshivah of Ponovezh, the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky in his Youth. Rare

Notebook of Torah novellae on Hilchot Avadim. Deep discussions on Tamudic topics and legal decisions by the Ramba"m and the Rishonim on Hilchot Avadim and related halachahs. Israel [early 1940s]. Signed autograph from the Torah of the leading rosh yeshivah of the previous generation.

The novellae are written with clarity characteristic of Rabbi Shmuel, who was known to have been gifted with incredible clarity. The novellae were written in the form of complete lengthy systems. Whether they were printed is not known. Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky signed on the binding of his notebook: "Shmuel Rozovsky."

On the last leaves of the notebook, there are novellae by Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky on another topic - Hilchot Avodah Zarah. These novellae were written there backwards. This happens again and again in the manuscripts by Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, to the extent that some explain it by the fact that Rabbi Shmuel, who was completely immersed in study, sometimes innovated novellae while sleeping and would wake up and record the novellae and go back to sleep, therefore sometimes his novellae are written in opposite directions on the leaf.

This early and rare compilation from the Torah novellae by Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky demonstrates the early study method of the great rosh yeshivah, the teacher and rabbi of many of the roshei yeshivah of our generation and who would later be the head of the flagship yeshivah of the Lithuanian yeshivah world - the Ponovezh yeshivah. Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky has little to do with writing and most of his teaching has been passed down through the generations by his students [see the introduction by his son to Shiurei Rebbi Shmuel on Tractate Makkot]. This also demonstrates the rarity of this manuscript - a complete compilation in his script.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky.

[1] lined notebook, [32] leaf, of which approximately [28] pages are written. 20 cm. Entirely handwritten by Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, with his signature. Very fine condition.
