A rare funeral prayer for King Charles the Great Duke of Baden, and a prayer for the success of his successor. Baden, 1818
"Pray in All the synagogues of Baden on Thursday, Tevet, 3 1818, for the soul of our glorious Lord Grasshertzag Karl ZL" - Rare Funeral Prayer - In Memory and Rest of Honor of Charles the Great Duke of Baden and Prayer for the Success of His Successor - His uncle Grasherzag Ludwig - Printed leaf on Both Sides. Baden 1818.
Charles the Second Grand Duke of Baden [1786-1818] from 1811-1818. Famous for his command of the Grand Duchy of Baden in the war alongside France, and even participating in the siege of Danzig in 1809, he was known for his good treatment of the Jews. On December 8, 1818, Carl died without sons, and was replaced by his uncle Ludwig I, Grand Duke of Baden [1763-1830] - to whom a special prayer was dedicated to the success of his rule on the other side of the leaf. On March 30, 1830, Ludwig mysteriously died, and some claim he was murdered, and was replaced by his stepbrother Leopold the Grand Duke of Baden.
