Germanische Inqvizitzen (the German Inquisition) - Tel Aviv, 1934 - Satirical Poem against Hitler with a Hopeful Ending - Written before the Holocaust - Interesting and Rare
Written by: [Yosha Shalom] Alter After.
A booklet of satirical poetry against the new German government headed by Hitler, which had just become the Fuhrer.
The booklet is a long rhymed, tragic-comic essay on the situation of the German Jews.

The writer describes the contribution of the Jews to German culture and economy and how the German nation had suddenly changed its skin and turned from friend to enemy.
The writer presents a then-common claim "that Hitler is just insane and should not be feared since a barking dog does not bite".

One of the verses of the poem is written on a personal note, praising Rabbi Hildesheimer who raised funds among the Jews of Berlin for the victims of the pogroms in Russia. The writer laments the irony - that now the Jews of Germany need the help of their brothers in foreign countries.
The poem also criticizes the German Jews for assimilating and befriending their neighbors. The writer implies that Hitler was sent from Heaven to make them repent.

The poem ends with optimism, expressing hope that this is only a temporary hardship that will soon pass with the redemption.
