Receipt for payment to the "Ohel Moshe" Yeshiva, with the handwritten signature of Rabbi Yeshaya Orenstein. Jerusalem, [1908].
"I have received by Rabbi Shmuel Salant Shalita of Jerusalem an amount of 10 ten Mark that were sent by the Koifman Brothers". A document signed by the Rosh Yeshiva of "Ohel Moshe" of Jerusalem, Rabbi Yeshaya Orenstein. Jerusalem [1908].
[1] leaf, printed receipt, with filled-in details, 11X9 cm. Signed by Rabbi Yeshaya Orenstein and with the stamp of his yeshiva.
The Gaon Rabbi Yeshaya ben Rabbi Uri Orenstein (1836-1908). A Chabad Chassid, Rosh Yeshiva, one of the leaders of the Yishuv of Jerusalem and one of the founders of its neighborhoods. Was born in Safed, moved to Hebron in 1841 and five years later, moved to Jerusalem. A disciple of Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Leib of Kotna and Rabbi Eliyahu Yosef Rivlin. Succeeded his father as Shadar and the secretary of Kollel Chabad. Evetually, he headed the Kollel. Was one of the founders of the Mrah Shearim and Beis Yisroel neighborhoods in 1872 and initiated the purchase of the lands of Kikar HaYarden for establishing a settlement there. In 1894, he founded with his son, Rabbi Yaakov, the Ohel Moshe Yeshiva which became a spiritual center for the Talmidei Chachamim of Jerusalem. Was close to the Maharil Diskin.
