William Stockley, one of the first biographers of the revered Newtonian scientist. Describes how in 1726 he drank tea with Newton when he told him about the discovery of gravity:
As Newton sat under a tree an apple fell on his head. Newton pondered the question and wondered why the apple always falls vertically to the ground? Why does it not fall to the sides or upwards, but always towards the center of the earth? The reason is Newton decided that the earth attracts him. There must be a force involved in the matter. And from there .. well you know.. it's history.
We are pretty sure that this apple is not the one that fell on Newton's head because then he certainly would not have discovered gravity .. Our apple rises to a height of almost 80 centimeters and has an impressive presence. We would not want him to fall on anyone's head. But we are sure he will steal the show wherever you choose to showcase it.
