Pair of Documents Signed by Prominent Slonim Chassidim and Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser

Report of stipend recipients for the students at the Ohr Torah (Tiberias) yeshivah, with their signatures, 1823.

The Ohr Torah yeshivah was the only yeshivah for Ashkenzim in Tiberias. It was established in 1800,at the initiative of Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg of Slonim, author of Divrei Shmuel. During his father's lifetime, he once visited Tiberias and noted that there was no suitable framework for the younger generation. Over many years, in 1899, he appealed to his confidante, the gaon Rabbi Moshe Clears, later rabbi of Tiberias, telling him that it would be suitable to establish a yeshivah for their young men. There was a wealthy Jew who lived in Tiberias in those days, David Zibenberg, and he donated a huge fund towards the founding of this yeshivah. That next year, it was indeed founded, and it was led by Rabbi Moshe Clears and Rabbi Yitzchak Matityahu Sandberg, grandchildren of the author of Yessod HaAvodah, spiritual leaders in Tiberias. Its light spread far and wide, illuminating the entire city, It was located outside city limits, next to the grave of Rabbi Meir Ba'al HaNes. The students would leave their homes for the week, returning home only for Shabbat. The rosh yeshivah was Rabbi Moshe Clears and with his wondrous lectures, he raised the banner of Torah, and his halachic ruling illuminated the eyes of the Jewish people.
