HaKavanot MeHaAr"i with Glosses by Rabbi Petachiyah, Av Beit Din of Frankfurt, Written in Prison Over 23 Days. Yasnitz, 1723.

HaKavanot by the G-dly Rabbi ... Yitzchak Luria, ztzuk"l, with glosses by Rabbi Petachyah, av beit din of Frankfurt. Jasnitz, 1723. Beautiful architectural title page.

The Ar"i's Sefer HaKavanot was first printed in 1620 from a manuscript that was apparently smuggled from the Land of Israel, and reprinted with the glosses by Rabbi Petachyah, av beit din of Frankfurt, in 1624. Rabbi Petachyah wrote in the foreword that he requests that any reader who finds errors judge him favorably, "because this work was done in distress, when I was bound in the Frankfurt prison due to my sins(!) for 23 days." M. Horowitz estimates in his book Rabbanei Frankfurt p. 45, that he was imprisoned in connection with printing this book. This is the second edition of the book with the glosses, including the rare leaf of errata.

The book's leaves bear revisions and Kabbalistic glosses by an unidentified writer.

[3], 43, [1] leaf. 20 cm.

Very fine condition. Minimal aging stains. Simple binding, not the original.
