Aruch HaShulchan, First Edition. Handwritten Author's Dedication

Aruch HaShulchan about the halachahs of niddah and mikvehs is one of the most important books of halachic rulings. First edition. Warsaw, 1901. Authored by the gaon Rabbi Yechiel Michel Epstein, av beit din of Novardok, known as 'author of the Aruch HaShulchan' after the name of this book. On the leaf before the title page (the flyleaf), there is a handwritten dedication written by the author to "His exalted honor... Rabbi Chaim Chaimowitz ... I hereby send this book to you, [signed, ] the author."

Aruch HaShulchan is one of the most important books of halachic adjudication from the generation before the Holocaust, and is considered something of a Mishnah Berurah (which was also authored those same years, and was immediately accepted across the Diaspora) but with a different style of ruling. The book was written with tremendous genius, and according to the family, some was written during court sessions of the Novardok beit din, where the author served as rabbi and av beit din. The different parts of the book were printed over several decades, some during the author's lifetime, and some posthumously.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the renowned gaon Rabbi Yechiel Michel HaLevi Epstein.
