Luchat Edut. Altona, 1755. Work of Historic Importance.

Apologetic work by Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz, with letters and poster from rabbis, parnassim and community leaders, who stood at his side. First edition. Copy lacking the end.

Main work by Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz to justify his path against the harsh accusations by Rabbi Ya'akov Emden - the Ya'avetz.

His major rival, Rabbi Ya'akov Emden - the Ya'avetz - in his book Shevirat Luchot HaOn a year later.

On leaf 63,Rabbi Yehonatan printed a star-of-David-shaped amulet for a woman giving birth, and then elaborated his intent at length, in order to remove suspicion from those who were concerned that he uses Sabbatean amulets.

Leaf 72 bears a responsum by the Vilna gaon to a question by Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz. This is the first time the Gr"a was mentioned in a book. Rabbi Yehonatan writes about him: I heard told among the sages in the city that there is a pious and sacred Jew ... well-versed in all wisdom, sharp and expert, with [complete Kabbalistic] wisdom, Rabbi Eliyahu, whose praise is spoken all over Poland, Berlin and Lissa ... (Refer to Vinograd in the introduction to Otzar Sifrei HaGr"a, no. 1257).

The title page bears an owner's stamp of Yerushalmi Kabbalist Rabbi Asher Zelig Margaliot. The signature of Rabbi Chai Moshedi Pijato, rabbi of Aleppo, appears in leaf 24.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Chai Moshedi Pijato.
